Domingo: ‘Tired’ Wits Should Have Beaten Pirates

It was a case of two points dropped rather than a point earned according to Bidvest Wits playmaker Haashim Domingo, who feels that his side deserved a win over Orlando Pirates.

The Clever Boys were hoping to make it a third consecutive win against the Buccaneers this season, having beaten them 3-2 on penalties in the Nedbank Cup and 4-3 in a pulsating league encounter last year.

However, it wasn’t to be as the sides played to a goalless draw, with goalkeeper Ricardo Goss walking away with the Man of the Match award.

Speaking to the media, play maker Domingo, who came closest to breaking the duck after rattling the post, said his side deserved to walk away with all three points against the Soweto giants.

“We should have won the match and gotten three points with the Pirates game. We were a bit unlucky and we should have been a bit more clinical from a personal perspective but we should have come out victorious in the game against Pirates.

“We are stiff and tired but we soldier on, I mean we have two to three games every week, but there’s nothing we can do about it but we keep on going.” he said.

After a daunting schedule in which they faced the ‘big three’, the 24-year-old feels that Wits cannot take their foot off the pedal when they come up against a tricky Golden Arrows side, who they managed to overcome 1-0 in the first round of fixtures.

“I think Golden Arrows are not an easy team to beat, we have to go out there with the same mentality that we had against the last three teams. We can’t underestimate these teams and we’ll be up for it. We know they are going to come at us with everything and we just have to be ready for that,” Domingo concluded.
