Is the stadium yours? – Oluboi questions NSA boss over GH 60,000 fee

The General Manager of Accra Great Olympics, Mr Oluboi Commodore has questioned if the Director-General of National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof. Peter Twumasi’s entity owns any stadia in Ghana to charge GHC60,000 for the use of a stadium facility.

According to him, the NSA are just the custodians who are not obliged to charge outrageous amounts for the use of any stadium facility in the country.

“We should pay GHC60,000, why is the stadium yours? You are just the custodians, not the owners and it’s the social responsibility of the state to construct a stadium,” Oluboi Commodore said in an interview monitored by Ghanaweb. “Which club in Ghana can construct a big stadium like the Accra Sports Stadium?” Oluboi questioned.

Oluboi Commodore’s comments come after the NSA Director General, stated that each Ghanaian club must cough up a staggering $10,500 per week for the usage of a state facility when football returns.

Prof. Peter Twumasi noted that the NSA which is responsible for the management of the state facilities will charge GHC 60,000 per usage if the football would be played behind close doors.

However, in an interview with Atinka FM, Oluboi Commodore called the bluff of Prof. Twumasi claiming his assertions as just a joke.

“Forget it, it’s just a joke, can they tell anyone not to play matches at the stadium? For you to say that if someone wants to play a match at a stadium they must pay GHC60,000 how? In fact, we don’t pay that amount for World Cup tournaments? If anyone gets up, they just speak gibberish because they’ve been given a position.”

He continued that, “I’m not sure a learned person like him will make such comments. How can we pay such an amount for just one game? Does the government charge such amount for vehicle owners who ply their trade on our road just because it is maintained by the government?”

The Great Olympics General Manager also doubted if the NSA could make the GHC60,000 revenue during big games.

If Hearts and Kotoko are playing that’s the only moment when you can make money. The National Sports Authority should go and check if they can earn GHC60,000 cedis if Hearts play Kotoko.
